"Amazing Grace"
By Barbara J. Lamb
I grew up on a small farm near Greenwood, Mississippi in the 40’s and 50’s.
Our family consisted of my parents, my two sisters, my maternal grandmother and
myself. We attended church on a regular basis.
My dad often led singing in the small congregation.
We were a singing family.
When we would take short trips to see our relatives, we would sing in the car to
pass the time. All four parts were represented - lead, tenor,
alto and bass. Sometimes at night before the advent of television,
we would sing to entertain ourselves. The preacher where we
attended church loved to sing and often he would come out to the farm to pick up
some fresh vegetables. Before he would leave he would say to my
sisters and myself, "Come on girls, let's sing some before I go back
to town." And we would enjoy singing some of the old hymns with
him.
We had certain songs that were our
favorites and one particular one that always brings a smile to my face and
special memories is "Amazing Grace". To this day, when I
hear the song I remember three sisters and a family that loved each other so
much and enjoyed singing and making music. Those "Precious
Memories" are always with me and they fill my heart today and always.

I have always had a vivid imagination and loved to write stories.
I have written two novels and am in the process of finding an agent.
I run my own business "Dream Catcher" which helps people write and
publish their memoirs or life stories. Everyone has a story to tell
and we need to preserve these stories for future generations.
