Magic Happens By Melissa Marsh
I guess we can all
look back to a time when magic seems to sweep you off your ordinary feet and
lead you into a world where reality is far behind. The memories evoked from that
certain time become locked away in your heart and mind, guiding you through the
darkest of days. This magic got a hold of me three summers ago to be exact.
I was just over a horrible, long
relationship that should have ended before it really began. However, my
wonderful sister convinced me to go on a blind date with Eric, her young History
teacher. After endless protests, I finally gave in. I talked with him on the
phone a few times and figured he seemed nice enough.
My sister and I spent hours at the mall and
found the perfect outfit for the date. She did my hair and makeup beautifully.
One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone is late. Well, Eric was over 30
minutes late and I grew anxious by the minute. After what seemed like endless
time, the doorbell finally rang. I nervously strode over to the door and saw him
do a double take of me. He was cute, with his streaked blond hair, tan face and
sculpted jaw line. It was a beautiful, hot summer day and we rode along in his
green jeep with its top and doors off.
I know it sounds crazy, but there was just
something about him and I wanted to know him better. After seeing a movie we
both picked out not knowing it would be full of sex scenes, it was called
"Eyes Wide Shut", we awkwardly left the theater. However, we laughed
it off. That night was filled with magic as we talked at a bookstore about our
lives. Yet what especially stands out in my head is the song "Kiss Me"
by Sixpence None the Richer. A beautiful, carefree song described that night
perfectly. It was a night when "Fireflies dance" and the "Silver
moon's sparkling".
We later found out that we both wanted to
kiss each other that night, but it was only the first date. The rest of the
summer was a dream and we spent the rest of it together everyday and discovered
each other. That song later became our wedding song which was last July 15. I
work nights writing and editing for a newspaper, so we are on opposite
schedules. I miss him so much, but when I hear that song I think of that summer
and know that one day we can be on the same time schedule.
